Breakfast strategies for commuters

Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but not everyone has the time to prepare and eat a hearty breakfast before they rise for work. Many have children to tend to (or simply sleep to catch up on), that is where these two on the go breakfast strategies can give you a real boost. You will save time by eating on your journey to work, and make sure that you are refuelled, recharged and energised for a productive day ahead.

Healthy Preparation

Take a mason jar or some collapsible Tupperware, fill a 3rd of the container with rolled oats, add milk (this can be dairy, almond of coconut variety), slice and add a banana and leave the mixture to soak over night.

Oats for breakfast are a timeless classic and for good reason, they maintain your blood sugar, meaning that you will not dip or spike in energy throughout the morning.

To make this a little more of a treat, take your collapsible Tupperware in the morning, and open it up to sprinkle some strawberries or blueberries on top. Take a spoon with you an enjoy on the go – breakfast has never been so easy.

Use your leftovers

Something like creamy oats is a brilliant breakfast, but having the same thing too many times in one week can make it become more of a chore than a pleasure. But if you can get yourself out of the traditional mindset when it comes to thinking about what can be a breakfast food, the opportunities become endless.

Whether you had meat (or meat free) chilli the night before, or chicken and quinoa, to a full roast dinner. Chuck it all in your tupperware, give it a nuke in the microwave and take it with you on your way to the office.

This way of doing things is especially perfect if you are not one of the people that likes eating the same thing for dinner two nights in a row, it can keep your diet varied and reduce food waste at the same time.

Both of these strategies can be adapted, you will find many recipes online for interesting and tasty ways to quickly prep some food the night before, and you will find new and ingenious ways of reusing last nights dinner to make a no thought needed breakfast for your commute. Never miss breakfast again without having to restructure your last minute morning routines.
